Let's not forget that Jeremiah Washburn is now our new OL coach as he joins us along with new OC Dowell Loggains ... both from the Bears. No complaints about the Bears rushing attack.

Armando Salguero wrote:
“It’s a special group," newly acquired center Daniel Kilgore said. "Coming in, I knew right away just by the makeup of the room that you got a bunch of really good guys led by two really good coaches that care about their players.

"Getting to know them on and off the field, we’ve got some players who’ve played a lot of ball and we’ve got some young guys who are able to step up and play. I think the offensive line room is in a good spot right now. There’s obviously a lot to learn early in OTAs, but we’re in a good situation right now.”

And the proof of how good things seem is the starting unit is already decided. Finished. Complete.

* Ja'Wuan James is the starting right tackle.
* Jesse Davis is the starting right guard.
* Kilgore, acquired in trade from San Francisco and replacing Mike Pouncey, is the starting center.
* Josh Sitton, signed as a free agent, is the starting left guard.
* And 2016 first-round pick Laremy Tunsil is the starting left tackle.

The Dolphins' 2018 starting offensive line.

And now I ask you to consider the calendar.

In my opinion, the starting unit is better on paper from the perspective that we have less holes.

You may have said before last season that Pouncey was a top 10 center, but in 2017 he was way outside the top 10. Our guard positions continued to be question marks.

I think now we have 5 guys in the starting unit that should be at least serviceable. Sitton is a nice addition and should compliment Laremy Tunsil. Given Pouncey's terrible 2017 season, I don't expect a huge drop off to Kilgore, who seems to do well in pass protection.

The biggest upgrade may come at offensive line coach.

Chris Forster, in my opinion, was a terrible hire and a terrible football coach. In his stint with the Dolphins as offensive coordinator in 2004, he was... terrible. If you look at the performances historically of his offensive lines, they have been... terrible. Let's not even get into the off the field incidents.

With Washburn, we get a lot of experience and a better track record of success. And we *hopefully* don't get cocaine and hookers.

I am going to go with yes especially if the center can practice the position with the rest of the line during the year.

Yes, it's better on paper. I think it's also better (slightly) in terms of depth. By the end of camp, we should have no linemen on the roster that flat out do NOT belong on any NFL roster. 2 years ago we had two starting guards like that.

The other problem with Pouncey is that the Dolphins had to rest him through the week to save his body for the game. Unfortunately this does not help chemistry along the offensive line ... which is a very important quality of a good line.

Here's some more insight into our new OL Coach Jeremiah Washburn. If John Fox hired him as his OL Coach, that is a good reference if you ask me.

Barry Jackson wrote:
New offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn, on why he came to the Dolphins, cracked: “Well I didn't have a job when [former Bears] coach [John] Fox was let go.”… He said of new guard Josh Sitton: “He's just a really good guard, really productive in what he does, a natural pass blocker.”… He wants left tackle Laremy Tunsil to “keep trending the way he did” late last season.
