We had several good options in Round 3, including QB Rudolph, DL Hurst, and OL Crosby, and I was hoping we would take one of them, given that they were considered second round picks. It is hard to argue with us taking the need pick of a LB, though.

Amazingly, Hurst and Crosby are still available. What would it take to move up to the top of the 4th round and snag Hurst? Probably both of our 4th round picks would do it, though that would mean we couldn't get one of the remaining viable QBs (Falk or White).

Hurst would contribute right away, while Falk won't. We would need to move up to get either one of them, so it will be interesting to see what we do. The decision will be telling with regard to whether the front office is emphasizing the short-term or long-term.

Hurst heart condition is why he is still there and might not even be drafted.

I love Hurst.

Mike Mayock stated he only knew of one team that passed Hurst on his physical.

I would expect him to go really late, if he gets picked at all.

I'm thinking QB (White or Falk) with one of OL (Crosby, Gossett, Teller, etc.), DL (McIntosh, Fatukasi, Brown, etc.), or RB (Walton, Jackson, Ballage, etc.).

There's a lot of talent left to choose from if they choose to go with a late round developmental QB like Litton or Allen.

I thought I heard that the heart condition thing had been cleared, but I don't remember where I heard it.

Probably has, but people hear heart condition and might simply do not want to be the ones that put him on the field and then have him collapse or die.

Supposedly his heart condition is similar, but not quite the same, as Hank Gathers.

Mayock said a second team he knows about cleared him medically.

Durham Smythe? What? We picked another tight end instead of a backup QB?

TE that specializes in blocking, unlike Gesicki.

They must have felt Smythe wouldn’t make it to thei next pick?

He fills a need, but not the most pressing need. I suppose he helps the O line, but we really need an infusion of talent for our pitiful O line...

And now we draft a RB. Fits a need, but our O line still stinks.

Pfft! You seriously thought these carpetbaggers are in for the long term? They know they have to do at least six, seven wins to keep their job and they are confident Tannehill, with some help mind you, can get either of those two numbers, not only in 2018 but in 19 and BEYOOOONDDDDD!!!

An update on Smythe during OTAs.

Barry Jackson wrote:
(TE Coach Shane Day said when he was meeting with Smythe at the NFL Combine, “we had a lot of conversations about Anthony Fasano” — another former Notre Dame tight end that Smythe admires.

“We actually FaceTimed Fasano when we were in the train station and got him involved. It’s really good to have a role model like Fasano.” (Fasano played with the Dolphins last season but remains unsigned.)

Though Smythe has been labeled a blocking tight end by some, Day said the Dolphins see upside as a receiver: “He didn’t get targeted a lot at Notre Dame, but we saw the hands on tape. We felt in our offense with our situation, he would have a chance to be a very productive player.”
