Most of us have moved on to the Dolphins not getting a quarterback in the NFL draft now that the Jets hopped to the third spot and the Bills, with the 12th pick, loom with ammo to move ahead of the Dolphins’ 11th pick.

But hold on. MMQB’s Peter King presents a scenario where the Dolphins move up and get their quarterback.

Maybe it works that way. The question is who the Colts would want with the Dolphins’ 11th pick rather than the Bills’ 12th pick. And if the Dolphins would take that player. Because otherwise Buffalo would have more chips to trade with two No. 1 picks, two No. 2 picks and two third-round picks.

Everyone’s talking about Buffalo moving up, but what about Miami? Let’s say the Dolphins love Baker Mayfield, which is apparently the case. Let’s say the Dolphins are uncomfortable counting on Ryan Tannehill for the long term, in large part because he’s missed 19 straight games with injuries, and the Dolphins know they can’t sit at 11 with their scheduled pick because the four good quarterbacks will likely be gone. And let’s say the Colts, with the sixth overall pick, would be comfortable moving down to Miami’s pick at 11, Indy figuring if it can pick up another second-round pick at least, it would be worth it. (Really, the Colts are not just comfortable doing this. They want to do this.) So let’s slot Rosen to Miami with the sixth pick, and now all the primo quarterbacks are gone. And the Colts have turned the third overall pick at the start of March into the 11th—and added four second-round picks in the process. Five prime prospects instead of one excellent one. GM Chris Ballard would love that trade.

The best thing that could happen between now and the draft is for Omar Kelly to come out and say Miami trading up and getting a QB will never happen. If he says that (with his track record) then I'll feel better about the possibility.

:haha

I'll bet he stirs up so much controversy that the Sun Sentinel is showing that he has a lot of traffic going his way. nOmar is probably here to stay. I don't go to the Sun Sentinel much except to read Dave Hyde's points.

Let's all be honest ... this is not the 1983 draft where John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, and Ken O'Brien are there as franchise quarterbacks. This is probably the 1999 draft where Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akilii Smith, Daunte Culpepper and Cade McNown were drafted in the first round. Which of these quarterbacks are stinkers: Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson? I hope that Coach Gase, with a little input from Dan Marino, can make a fair evaluation of all the quarterbacks in this draft.

I am sold on Darnold and Mayfield. Rumors have it that the Dolphins really like Rosen.

The smartest move: stay at 11 and grab one of those two fantastic linebackers, & pick a QB in round 2 or 3.

IF it is possible to trade up and get a QB they love, they should. QBs are too hard to find to pass up the chance at a franchise guy if you think you have a shot at one (see KC and Philly.) If they don't have that kind of conviction about either of them, they'll stand pat and take BPA, I hope.

The Dolphins agree with you, Kev. They got one and finally ponied up money for one who can actually block and play the position.

Miami opened a massive hole on the interior of their line by cutting C Mike Pouncey on Thursday, but bringing Sitton in should help to plug the gap. Sitton will turn 32 in June, but he remained a quality option last season in Chicago. Even with Sitton on board, Miami has work to do on their offensive line.

Whichever ones the Bills and especially the Jets draft. Please let it be Allen and Jackson.
