I wonder if Rapoport is just connecting the dots. With the Chiefs in the playoffs, I just cannot see anything but confecture on the part of Rapoport, who seems to just make up stuff. Will Alex Smith be traded? If Mahomes is looking good in practice, I can definitely see this happening as Alex Smith's value is at his all time high.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs are open to trading Alex Smith in the offseason. The dots have connected to this ever since the Chiefs traded up for Patrick Mahomes in the first round of last April's draft. Smith has just one year left on his deal through 2018 with a $20.6 million cap hit, and the cap-strapped Chiefs can clear $17 million of that by shedding Smith. However, Smith is coming off arguably his best season as a pro and is still theoretically in the prime of his career at 33 years old. He could be the best quarterback on the market if Kirk Cousins sticks in D.C. RapSheet mentions the Browns, Cardinals, Broncos, Jets, Jaguars, and Bills as potential suitors for Smith, who could fetch the Chiefs multiple draft picks.

I don’t want him. He’s someone you have to build a compete team around to compete. I’d rather have Tannehill for at least another season.

Same here. Smith will be 34 when the preseason begins. I've seen quarterbacks have some of their best years just before they suddenly lose it due to age.

I bet Smith ends up in Arizona or Jacksonville.

As long as he does not end up with the Jets or Bills.
I agree that Tannehill has much more of an upside. I even think starting QB is not a priority as long as Tannehill stays healthy. With the right roster moves Tannehill can take this team to the super bowl.

I haven’t paid attention. Has Bortles really been THAT bad this season? I looked up his stats and saw he threw for 35 TDs two years ago which caught me off guard. So is their defense and Fournette winning games despite the QB?

Pretty much. Bortles had a nice little run in early December but otherwise he is Mark Sanchez - the team is asking him to do the minimum and not throw the game away.

I think defenses caught on to his delivery and anticipated his throws. Turnovers, sacks and failed expectations seem to have killed his confidence.

He might be a nice reclamation project somewhere.

I read that his daddy wanted to drive around and meet the people and players talking smack about his little boy. Guy needs a wake up call. Your son is being paid millions to perform at the highest level of competition the sport has to offer. If he isn’t getting the job done, people are allowed to talk.

I know they just won and he had some key runs but Bortles is the loose end of that team and Coughlin has got to realize that.
I think the defense being able to carry them ends in Pittsburgh.
They need a QB.

Pretty sure Eli stays in NY, but Smith...

He could land a lot of different places. Cleveland, Buffalo. NY Jets. Jaxonville would be a smart move for him. Seems like a good fit to me. The guy I can't figure out is Tyrod Taylor. He always plays great against us. His numbers are very good, no matter how you look at it. He just isn't a guy that will dominate. But he's proven he can be an effective starter in the league, IMO. He'll be starting somewhere next year, if not in Buffalo.

I mention Eli only because of the Coughlin connection. He has been horrible to say the least this season.
