Post Dolphins notebook: Pat White learned some valuable lessons
Quote:
...

He has spent a lot of time has done a lot of studying on his own and with (quarterbacks coach) David Lee. I think you can start to see some of that right now. At the end of 6 practices, this guy’s close to almost 68-69 percent completions right now.”

...

Sparano raves about how White, listed at 6-feet, 190 pounds, has put on 18 pounds since he arrived in Miami a little more than a year ago. Nine of those pounds have come since the end of the season, Sparano said.

...

“Pat White has gained 18 pounds since the day he showed up here, and lost body fat, on a player that don’t have a whole lot,” Sparano said. “This guy has really gotten himself bigger, stronger. You can see it in the way he’s throwing the ball. To put that kind of weight on that frame and to lose the body fat that he’s lost, has been pretty impressive.”

White's problems were a lot more than just being small. Adding some muscle probably won't save his job.

At least Pat White is doing the right things. It would be easy to use last season as an excuse to quit but he is not. I hope he can salvage something in Miami.

I think he could really benefit by going up to Canada to start for a year or two. Too bad we can't rent him out in 2010. Still, he has one of the best quarterback coaches working with him.

Even though he was useless last year, I am actually looking forward to seeing him in the preseason to see whether all of this is just hype. I'm thinking hype.

Well, the thing with Pat is his game is based around his feet more than his arm, a WC qb who cannot run between the tackles and gain positive yardage doesn't fit what is needed for that role so imho those extra pounds are to help him run the ball more than passing it.

I'm looking forward to seeing if he has gained any explosiveness running the ball as for him, that opens up passing lanes and windows.

I don't think the CFL would help him, now if he could spend time in the UFL in a NFL style offense, that would help tremendously.

I suspect he won't even make the team......

He could benefit for a stint in Arena ball....just airing it out every play and working on accuracy....and actually completing a pass.

well lets just let him show us something in the preseason games, with that 18 pounds he should be able to take more hits??????? he will need to in the wild cat, teams will always play the run 1st while he is back there and hit him just to get into his head. so run or pass he will get hit.....a lot and often till he shows he can take it an make good passes.
