1. Heading into the Dolphins mini-camp this weekend, Will Allen continues to be a focal point. The Dolphins don't want to move Allen to safety for good reason. Teams need to play three cornerbacks much of every game and Allen, assuming he returns to form from knee surgery, would be integral to that. The decision is this:

A. Keep Allen at his career strength of cornerback and hope one of the unproven safeties emerges in Chris Clemons, Tyrone Culver or Rashad Jones.

B. Move Allen to safety and use someone like Jason Allen or rookie Nolan Carroll in the nickle package as the third cornerback.

This doesn't even cover the idea that teams typically need four or five cornerbacks in a season due to injury. So you can see why the Dolphins would be hesitant to do B. For now, the hope is one of the safeties plays well enough to answer some questions.

In certain packages, sure I can see Will Allen at "FS". That doesn't make him one though. Nate Jones played some SS in certain packages last year.

Where it becomes a problem is when he is in at FS in nickel and dime situations.

Because Will Allen is a CB. He's started 50someodd games and been very good at CB. That is what he does.

Why we have such a fascination around here of players switching positions, I don't know. Why can we NOT give this horrid fascination up?

You can never have enough good cornerbacks, especially with the way teams play 3 & 4 wide receivers sets in the game today.

I hope he's back to full strength, he will be a great corner for us. His experience will have him starting if he's up to snuff

Will may be able to play, but we have seen on more than a few occasions that it takes these guys 2 years to get back fully healthy from ACL tears. Just look at Greg Camarillo and his statement.
