DAVIE — With starting cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Sean Smith both coming off solid rookie seasons, there's been a tendency to look for another spot in the secondary for 32-year-old cornerback Will Allen.

Coach Tony Sparano rejected that idea.

"I see that threesome competing against each other," Sparano said from the Dolphins' training facility, where the team worked out Wednesday. "We're going to figure out who the best two guys are gonna be, and that's the way we're gonna go."

Because Allen signed a three-year, $16.2 million contract (with $10 million guaranteed) last May, the Dolphins likely will have to find a place for him to play, be it corner, nickel back or even the free safety job that remains a question mark following the offseason departure of Gibril Wilson.

But when asked about the possibility of filling the free safety hole, Allen bristled.

"Who says it's a hole?" he said. "Somebody's out there, and the person I see out there is looking good."

That would be second-year man Chris Clemons, who at this juncture is penciled in as the starter

Like somebody else said before, CB is not a bad position to be deep at. I've said before that Allen or Smith can/should make the move, but looking back on it, let them all remain on the corner. Somebody isn't going to be a starter, but that doesn't mean they won't see the field. Having a rotation that is DEEP is a very sweet deal.

We have so many young guys competing for FS that somone will surely step up to the challenge. I've seen very little of Clemons, which means I cannot speak to give him credit or discredit. My last count we had 3 serious challengers. Not bad.

NT is where I'm really scared with Starks in transition. OLB is next. FS comes in 3rd. From the OTA reports, I think OLB may not be as shored up as we thought before. Wake and Misi are both workin 2nd team. That tells me we have 2 pass rushing specialist who can't play the run. I could be wrong, but there is a reason Moses and Anderson were taking 1st team snaps.

I hope it all works out. I hope our OLB's turn out to be well rounded sack/stuff specialist. I hope Randy makes the transition with success. I hope one of our three top FS prospects steps up and fills the void. If all that happens... I'll start up the SB Bus thread.
