I remember watching him in the Rutgers-SMU game back in October.... He's a big boy that needed to be game planned against. Rutgers squeeked out an Overtime thriller against a team that was FAR more prepared to defend Texas soil than RU was able to play on the road for a full 60 minutes...

Rutgers went in cocky as all hell, put up early points, i think there were turnovers involved, and forced SMU to go aerial. Going into the 4th quarter, RU had a 3 TD lead, and SMU was passing the ball due to lost time... although Shead was getting like 5 yards a clip.... falling forward... and physically pounding the RU linebackers...

SMU caught up, and tied the game with a 21 point rally, and with the game evened up, SMU was actually able to use Shead as a bulldozer, while RU was gassing..... 15 carries, 70 yards.... in a game where SMU's QB threw 71 passes.... this guy was definitely a bright spot.

Think like a young Brandon Jacobs.... when Jacobs was actually pretty physical.... i would be interested...... take him and Daniel Thomas can book his own plane flight back to the middle of nowhere

Traylon who?

The kid rushed 197 yards at a 3.9 clip in 4 games. What am I missing here? His size?

Dave.... He was a member of a SMU team that had 619 passing attempts last season.... They were extremely PASS HAPPY...

Their rushing stats are as follows...

NAME CAR YDS AVG LONG TD
Prescott Line 90 332 3.7 21 3
Garrett Gilbert 83 267 3.2 53 6
K.C. Nlemchi 51 238 4.7 28 1
Traylon Shead 51 197 3.9 16 3
Kevin Pope 17 89 5.2 31 0
JaBryce Taylor 5 72 14.4 27 0
Collin LaGasse 4 14 3.5 14 0
Mike Loftus 1 9 9.0 9 0
Garrett Krstich 2 2 1.0 6 0
Totals 326 1125 3.5 53 13

DATE OPP RESULT ATT YDS AVG LNG TD REC YDS AVG LNG TD
8/30 Texas Tech L 41-23 9 22 2.4 9 0 3 12 4.0 7
10/5 Rutgers L 55-52 15 69 4.6 16 0 1 -1 -1.0 0
10/19 @Memphis W 34-29 22 83 3.8 15 2 1 4 4.0 4
10/26 Temple W 59-49 5 23 4.6 11 1 1 11 11.0 11

expected him to be a workhorse had it not been for a pair of injuries, one of which was a gruesome horse-collar tackle.

Shead (6-feet-2, 230 pounds) signed with Texas out of high school in 2010. He was a consensus top-15 running back nationally out of tiny Cayuga (Texas) High, where he set a state high school record for career TDs (141) and was second all-time in state history in rushing yards (10,291).

DALLAS - Junior College All-American running back Traylon Shead has signed a National Letter of Intent with SMU and will enroll on the Hilltop in January, Coach June Jones announced today. The 6-2, 225-lb. back will be eligible for the 2013 season.

The Cayuga, Texas, native rushed for team highs in yardage (1,194) and touchdowns (17) for Navarro JC in 2012, earning honorable-mention NJCAA All-America honors. He led Navarro to a final ranking of No. 4 nationally and a 10-2 record.

http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/m-foo ... 12aaa.html

He was in a pretty stacked class of HS RB's back in 2010... went to JC and dominated... he dominated at his position in HS..... and when given the chance @ SMU he seemed to hold his own in a pass happy attack. A couple of unfortunate injuries last year make his stats look rough, but hes a big body bell cow type of back that can definitely find an NFL home.....

Not sure bout you guys, but It has been a LOOOONG time since Miami had a legitimate Bruiser at RB (I am not talking about the Ricky/Ronnie days.... I am talking about a thumper)..... Could be a nice grab

Even more reason to not be impressed with him. Defenses were keyed on the pass.

Maybe I'm wrong about him, but I don't see anything that would make me use a draft pick on him.

What were the results of the pro day, did he do anything impressive, or was the most impressive thing he did was to get measured and weighed.

He does remind you of Jacobs with how much he gets injured.

I did not see his pro day.

I saw a live game against my alma mater last year where he got traction in a come from behind effort and if they stuck with him, he would have been the reason for victory.

I know he was a top 20 nationally ranked high school runner in a loaded class

I know he was recruited heavily by the University of Texas, and got in even though he was not a position of need.... then left for Junior College since he didnt foresee any playing time until he was in his Junior Year.

I know that he took his JUCO team to top 5 status and was an absolute stud in that ranking.

I also know that in a crowded back field at SMU in a pass happy attack, when he got opportunities, he excelled (obviously AAC football is a grade low in my opinion). But he was in the same offense that Colt Brennan & Davone Bess came out of from Hawaii, and you know those stats were very one sided... Brennan putting up record NCAA passing yards....

His size is monstrous, and he is a bell cow type back....

I'll let the powers that be decide if he is worth a draft pick. As far as I am concerned, I would be interested in a closer look.... obviously 8 other teams wanted to check him out too... so lets not give him a scrub label just yet.... There have been some decent pickups in the Sup Draft

Well, the Dolphins did not draft him or anyone else in the supplemental draft today. In fact, not a single player was taken by any team.
