Post Couple of Dolphins rumors on draft day
I'd rather stay at 19 and draft Shazier or trade down to grab another OT rather than trade up to get Zach Martin.

Quote:
A source told Packer Report that Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier is unlikely to fall past the Dolphins at No. 19 overall. Shazier has been a late riser after running a 4.37 forty at the Buckeyes' Pro Day, and recording mind-bogglingly explosive jumps of 42" in the vertical and 10-foot-10 in the broad. The Fins have been searching for linebacker help since whiffing on D'Qwell Jackson in free agency. Shazier could play either middle or weak-side 'backer in Miami, with Philip Wheeler losing his starting job.

A source tells the Miami Herald the Dolphins are targeting Notre Dame G/T Zack Martin in trade-up scenarios.Per the Herald's Armando Salguero, "sources around the NFL are saying, insisting actually," that rookie GM Dennis Hickey wants to move out of the No. 19 overall spot. If the Fins find a trade-up partner, they're expected to target Martin. They could also trade down. More recently, Miami has been linked to Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier. They're known to be high on Tennessee OT Ja'Wuan James.

Fins fixing to trade out of No. 19?

By Tom Carpenter | ESPN.com

Most teams selecting in the teens during the first round of the draft likely aren't going to find the player they want at the right value. That's why teams like the Miami Dolphins, which draft 19th, are assessing the trade market.

"Sources around the NFL are saying, insisting actually, that Hickey wants to trade out of the Dolphins’ No. 19 overall selection in the first round," wrote Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. "That makes sense because the players the Dolphins covet either are not going to be available more than midway through the round or aren’t a value pick that early."

"One source is telling the Miami Herald the object of Hickey’s trade-up scenario is Notre Dame’s Zack Martin," he added.

Martin may well come off the board in the early teens, perhaps to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 15 or the Dallas Cowboys at No. 16, so the Fins likely would have to trade up to get him.

If they stick at No. 19, they could go for a linebacker. PackerReport.com cited a source who said that OLB Ryan Shazier won't get past the Fins at No. 19.

The bottom line is that the Fins likely will target an O-lineman or a linebacker with their first pick, regardless of when it's made:

Todd McShay :
"The Dolphins' offensive line situation is still a mess, even after adding left tackle Branden Albert and two others in free agency. It will be very surprising if they don't add a piece or two to the right side of the line early in this draft. They also need upgrades at the middle and weak-side linebacker spots and could look for a third wide receiver to play alongside Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline."

I hope these trade UP rumors are just that, a smokescreen because they actually want to do the exact opposite and trade DOWN, and trading up for Martin, a guy who will probably end up at G doesn't really ring the bell so to speak, it just raises a red flag, that's the kind of bad risk reward move that got Fireland.

If you look at history, trading up never really helped a team. Trading down has more success than up.

Trade up rumors are sometimes used to make another intended target fall. I'm not buying Miami is going anywhere other than back to the end of Round 1 or early Round 2 to stockpile more picks.

Agree with all of your statements. I would be disappointed to see Miami move up knowing that they have only 7 picks.

I would love to see Miami move down and pick up extra 2nd-4th rounders this year, or even a 1st rounder next year.

If they can't get Robinson, Lewan, Matthews, or Martin at 19, which is incredibly likely, find a trad buddy, move back and stock up.
