Dolphins HC Joe Philbin told reporters on Tuesday that they haven’t ruled out the possibility of re-signing veteran TE Dustin Keller.
“He’s one of those guys we’re evaluating and considering like a lot of other free agents out there,” Philbin said, via the Miami Herald. “We’ll see.”
Miami signed Keller to a one-year, $4.25 million contract after he didn’t fair as well as he was hoping in the free agent market last year. Unfortunately for Keller, he suffered a horrible knee injury that included tears to his ACL, MCL, and PCL, while also dislocating his knee.
There are obvious concerns about him moving forward, but he still only 29 years old and his rehab is reportedly on track for the 2014 season.
We’ll have to see what the Dolphins elect to do at tight end given that there aren’t very many options available at this point in time.

I dont see why they wouldnt be, it is all based on whether or not he is physically capable of playing of course. Vet min contract, has to be active week one.

I saw that last night and did not post it. I just can't see Dustin being ready to play after such a severe knee injury.

Time will tell though.

Did Adrian Peterson tear everything too and come back from that or was Keller's more severe?

Definitely not an easy task to rehab and come back as good as well as in time for next season.

Keller's injury was about as bad as Daunte Culpepper's.

Remember how bad he looked once he couldn't run anymore. He never regained his freakish ability to run with the ball.

AP only tore his ACL. Dustin Keller injury is along with line of Culpepper and Marcus Lattimore in severity.

Torn ACL, MCL & PCL, and they thought there could have been nerve damage, but he escaped that.

Adrian actually tore both his ACL & MCL, but Keller tore ACL, MCL and PCL. I knew the severity was bad for both, but could not remember just that AP came back pretty quickly and is a freak of nature.

Lattimore that poor guy it is amazing that he is EVEN trying to come back from what like a 3rd tear in his life???

Recovery time by ligament.

ACL - 6 months
MCL - 6-9 months
PCL - 9-12 months

PCL is more severe.

Isn't PCL what Hartline tore? Wow, thought it wasn't as severe. Yikes.

Yeah ive been saying draft a receiver because who knows where hartline will be...lattimores injury reminded me of willis mcgahee and he came back and a very good NFL career. Drew brees tears his labrum and comes back greater than ever...modern medicine can do wonders if the player is willing to work 24/7 to get back.

Yes, but he did not require surgery.

When you require surgery, it is usually because you tore something else along with the PCL.

Well, if we still have the same Drs who evaluated Culpepper we will sign Keller to a multiple year deal.

Wait for the guy to prove he's 100% healthy first. If he can pass a team physical, pass a thourough workout evaluation, and the team didn't already find someone in the draft, then he's a last minute option we could explore. But I honestly think we're going to enter the season with Clay, Sims, and Egnew as our TEs.

This also wasn't Keller's first knee injury. It gets tougher to come back after each new injury.

I like the guy. But I can't see him coming back. Better to spend time on someone who has a chance.

Is it bad to say that I think Keller would still be more useful than Egnew? I highly doubt Keller can ask for much money as unfortunate for him as it is. And at this Point have we looked over Egnew by getting Sims? I wouldn't be surprised to see more of Sims this year with Clay lining up somewhere else...keep our receivers fresh throughout the year. It will be nice to have Brandon Gibson back.

I was very bummed not to have got the chance to see him play for us...

I would love for him to be healthy enough to be a difference maker.

but clay.. stepped up last season... maybe the best surprise on the team...

i just hope to see keller get a chance to play.. would love for that to be with us.. seeing a guy get taken out with a cheap shot like that.. nothing but the best wishes for him

As disappointing as Kellers injury was would we have got to see clay light it up? I still remember that ridiculous 4th down play against New England. A ballsy call and clay made it happen after literally inches made the difference in the throw I thought for sure we were destined to make a playoff run after that play but instead we folded :(
