Dolphins announce they’re parting ways with Brian Gaine
Posted by Darin Gantt

Throughout the meandering search for a new General Manager in Miami, it appeared incumbent assistant G.M. Brian Gaine was interviewed as the fallback position, in case no one else wanted it.

Now that they’ve hired Dennis Hickey, there’s no room for him.

The Dolphins announced they had mutually parted ways with Gaine, after he was passed over for the job.

Such a split was likely inevitable, as the Dolphins try to bring their splintered power structure back together. Being too close with fired former G.M. Jeff Ireland proved to be a hurdle that was too great for Gaine to overcome.

James Walker ✔ @JamesWalkerNFL

Brian Gaine was well-respected in Miami. But the #Dolphins didn't see him as anything more than a No. 2 in the front office.

Brian Gaine leaving the #Dolphins is no surprise. He was passed over plenty of times in this GM search. The glass ceiling was in place.

The #Dolphins' assistant GM job is now open. A natural link is new GM Dennis Hickey could hire his former boss in Tampa Bay: Mark Dominik.

The only way Brian Gaine would have gotten the #Dolphins' GM job was if all other finalists declined. The irony is it almost happened.

I'm doing my best to reserve judgement because we have no idea what this FO is going to look like until the drafted & returning players get on the field. So the reports that want to make our hires look foolish our irresponsible.

Objectively, this appears that Ross is fumbling his way through this, like hes slowly pulling off a bandaid. A losing bandaid however

I don't like Mark Dominik because he seems incompetent. I hope he doesn't follow Hickey

As of Sunday morning, Brian Gaine was still technically a finalist for the Miami Dolphins’ general manager job.

Three days later, he was escorted out the door — ...

But the belief around the league is that Ross had all along planned to bring in fresh blood — and didn’t even do Gaine the courtesy of first telling him that the team was going in another direction. Gaine learned Sunday that Hickey got the job from reading reports in the media.

Some 72 hours later, he was out of a job — even though the previous week the Dolphins trusted him enough to run their scouting operation at the Senior Bowl. ...

The Dolphins went so far as to escort Gaine out of the building, according to multiple sources.

So, he was fired then. Interesting.

I guess we no longer will need to ask who did the drafting at TB as they'll both be here.

It probably hit the media so quickly that they didn't have a chance to tell him.
And I wouldn't expect that would be high up on anyone's priority list

That should have been No. 1 on their priority list. However, we all know Ross lacks class.

Gaine was too close dealing with Ireland and the fins needed a change altogether.

This was inevitable and zero surprise to me.

First they fired the OC, then the GM. When they started offering the job to others and were turned down, then continued to schedule interviews with others Brian Gaine felt confident he was a front runner and was shocked to learn of this hiring...

Well it would sure explain the poorly run team if the guys in charge are this naive

This isn't really all that uncommon in the work force. Happens all the time.

No obligation to the hiring manager to tell you who they chose to hire, or that you didn't get the job for that matter.

How many call backs do you all get saying, "sorry, we're going in a different direction".

Very few, I'd imagine.

I would have gone in this order: Philben, Sherman, Jim Turner, Ireland, Gaine, possibly Coyle.

When the report comes out, Turner will be fired. So you are going to get 4 out of 6 wishes.

I agree, just as much as it is a regular occurrence in modern corporate america that an employee being terminated is escorted out of the building by security. Its nothing indicating the individual being confrontational, or that the termination came as some suprise, its simply a precaution due to people who have reacted badly in that situation in the past.

That is the way Beasley decided to spin it, even tho he is fully aware of the way companies handle these situations.

I dont believe for a second Gaine didnt see this coming...

Every time I read the title of this thread, I see "Brent Grimes" instead of Gaine and my heart stops for a second before I realize my eyes are playing tricks on me
