Maybe Ross' contract runs out in 2 years, too. Please sell the team.

Dennis Hickey has 2-year contract

MIAMI -- The Dolphins' roller-coaster search for a general manager ended last week when they hired Dennis Hickey. But it turns out the Dolphins are not showing the strong commitment to their new GM as other teams around the NFL.

Cliff Welch/Icon SMINew general manager Dennis Hickey's contract with the Dolphins is for only two years, according to multiple sources.

The Dolphins signed Hickey to a two-year contract, multiple sources have informed ESPN.com. The usual contract length for new NFL general managers ranges between three to five years.

Hickey was not Miami's first choice. The Dolphins initially were turned down by Nick Caserio of the New England Patriots and Lake Dawson of the Tennessee Titans before offering the job to Hickey.

Hickey didn't have much leverage because his role was in question with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who recently hired new coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht.

I read a tweet from Salguero stating that an unnamed GM candidate who didn't get the job felt that Miami was 1 good offseason away from making the playoffs and 2-3 years away from bigger things.

Ross appears to be testing this out with GM, coaches and QB.

One thing is apparent - Ross really really really wants Philbin to succeed, but he knows the fanbase is shortening the leash.

Last time i checked that Offseason was in 2013.... and Miami WOULD HAVE MADE THE PLAYOFFS IF.... let the thousands of reasons begin again

I dont think anyone is downstating the talent on the roster...

The pieces in places above the talent is the problem... So whomever this unnamed GM is that is saying such things, its also telling how that GM candidate stayed away and didnt take this job...

Its either Ross, Aponte, or Philbin..... one of those 3 is the root of the problem.... and I really want to say its none of them, but every indication is that it is one of them or else some one would have wanted this job if they are "1 offseason away from "success"".

Can't say its Ross... he is trying everything he possibly can, and to the best of his abilities, and he is spending.... his subordinates are underachieving.... and he went out of the way to fix it this season.

I dont think its Aponte, it appears she is a succubus, but a talented one at that.... and all recent reports say she doesnt want the GM position,.... So i think its just a matter of other GMs afraid to work with a woman, that is orange like the color Snooky

I really dont think its Philbin either. He is the most calculated coach we've had on the roster since Shula... (maybe you can make a case for Saban, but his emotions lead his decisions). Maybe he needs to grow a pair, and get in his coordinators' faces a bit, but i do like his demeanor, and think a calm steady hand will work wonders

So that narrows it down to Ireland/Sherman/Coyle..... 2 of the 3 are gone... lets see how this plays out

So the guy that hires the problems isn't responsible for the problems???

The impression I got from Salguero was this unnamed GM was not one of the finalists who turned down the job. In fact, I believe Salguero tweeted he knew of 4 guys who would jump at the job if offered, but I believe those were the cap specialists who didn't make the final cut. One of those guys appears to be the source.

It is hard to tell because it became sort of a he said/she said soap opera at the end.

The Dolphins are denying an ESPN report that new GM Dennis Hickey got only a 2-yr. deal. They say it is longer than that.

Don't worry guys. I'm going to win the lottery and turn it in to billions via the stock market just so I can buy the Dolphins, build the new loudest stadium ever right on the beach and bring the perfect season back to Miami.

Ireland was extended last off season. Sure does not seem like that contracts are all that important to a guy keeping his job.

So, now much longer is it? It can't be that hard to tell us the length of his contract.

Probably just get extended to 2 years and a day after they realized how bad it looks in the press.
