Post Free Agent Options
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/4 ... ree-agents

I think this has been posted before and obviously not every player here will make it to free agency, but if you have info on which guys "fit" Miami's needs (zone blocking types, all around TE, etc.) please share.

I'll just start by saying I expect Miami to re-sign Grimes, Soliai, Clemons and McKinnie. Why McKinnie? While he wasn't great he was adequate and I think Miami will be hesitant to go into 2014 with a question mark at left tackle. I also doubt they throw heaping amounts of money at Albert.

The only realistic FA I will comment on from that list is Ronnie Brown. Been saying for a while that I would love to have him back.

I'm hoping someone has info on the free agent guards but from what I've read via the beat reporters there aren't any desirable targets.

You only have so many draft picks so there will have to be some signings. Obviously with cuts on the way we don't know who else will be available.

If any ex-dolphin comes back, I hope it is Tony McDaniel. Cheap and a great situational player to help clog the middle. Should have never let him go in the first place.

Chip Kelly ran a zone blocking scheme in Philadelphia. Its probably safe to say that Miami will continue to run a zone blocking scheme on offense. Miami needs to look at free agent lineman from teams that ran a zone blocking scheme. I know Washington, Houston, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Indianapolis, KC & Seattle run zone blocking offenses and there may be more.

Considering how bad the Jags were last year, Henne had a decent year. His stats were in line with Tanny's.

Jon Asamoah would be a good get. 1 sack allowed, only 12 hurries, decent all around blocker. Travelle Whorton is a run blocking stud and an adequate pass blocker. Geoff Schwartz is good too, especially on screens.

I think there are some solid options at guard in free agency. We should focus our efforts on guards in free agency and tackles in the draft.

I don't see this as a year Miami breaks the bank for anyone other than retaining their own quality talent (Grimes, Soliai).

I hope they can land one of those OGs you guys brought up. I'm not that comfortable banking on Dallas Thomas to step up or Garner/Brenner to be anything more than depth.

It will be interesting to see who gets cut or traded once the league year begins.

What does "in line" mean exactly?

Year 13.......................Henne..........................Tannehill

Rating:..........................76.5................................81.7
YPG:............................216.1..............................244.6
Comp %:......................60.6.................................60.4
TD:..................................13....................................24
INT:.................................14....................................17

Tanny definitely had the better season, but they're comparable on Comp% and Rating.

Consider that 2 games of 40ish quarterback rating dropped Tannehill from 86 to 81.7 rating. That was sub 50% completion percentage, no TDs, 3 picks and probably close to 10 sacks.

So Tannehill would have had the worst month of his career (two more games of those numbers) to have Henne numbers. Not sure it is as similar as you think.

On the flipside its rather depressing to think that in those two games if Tannehill put up decent numbers he'd be close to a 90 rating and we wouldn't be continuing to ask if he is the long term answer.

So because two components are similar, that means all of the numbers are in line?

Didn't Henne get a year of growth his rookie season in watching Pennington from the sideline?

True.....I just was trying to point out Henne isn't that bad. He'll be entering his 6th season and likely has another 4+ years in the NFL. All in all, he'll end up with a pretty good NFL career. By no means was I saying Henne > Tannehill.

To your point........I'll try to stay on topic.

It actually would fit the topic IMO, this team is in need of a less costly vet backup.

Is this list true FA's or are some RFA's? I see a few names we sure could use, I dont fall into this idea that there is only 1 or 2 names worth a look.. I mean how much can you do in the draft..
We need help at G, T, RB, WR, TE and then still have to worry about some of our core defensive guys going to FA.

We are not deep at many positions, so I cant expect a trade to land a true starter. Maybe if we are convinced Jordan is the guy, then its time to deal Wake while we can.

We lost our starting TE, Clay filled in but whos the # 2? Also the WR position, we started the season weak with Wallace, Hartline and Gibson, and Gibson went down. We need help there.
Also the RB's, neither of them look to be guys I would bet the season on. Bringing in a Jones-Drew or a Ben Tate surely wouldnt hurt this team IMO...

Also consider our FA's on defense, and guys like Patterson who probably wont be here next year. Just injured too often this year.

I'll just get this out there since I know it will be brought up at some point but how much of Josh Freeman's drafting was influenced by Hickey? Would he advise Philbin and Lazor that Freeman might be a nice reclamation project?

He was in charge of scouting the midwestern states during 2009, Freeman played at Kansas.

I think this one can gain some traction, maybe leak it to one of the local media outlets as an unnamed source and see where it goes...

I still like RT myself, I think he can really turn into something if the training wheels come off with Lazor. We have a big mobile QB that is actually pretty accurate when moving, I think if coaching would utilize that a bit more it would help...

With Blount I'm just wondering if he can be the workhorse and Miller can be the change of pace guy? Can Blount block?

I am by no means suggesting Freeman should be competition for Tannehill. I'm just wondering if he can replace Moore/Devlin. A cheap, backup contract and a guy who can win some games if Tannehill goes down.

Hickey saying he bought his son a Tannehill jersey once he got the job told me everything I need to know about his intentions for RT this year.

I think the best question is how much better could or would Thomas & Miller be with better blocking?
Thomas is not going to outrun anyone, so he would be the bruiser tough yardage guy. Seem to recall arm tackles taking him down.
Miller is touted as a speed guy, track start in college etc. Cant remember seeing him outrun anyone the few times he actually made it past our horrible line.

I cant say confidently that these two are going to be something special if they had better blocking up front, where a guy like Blount at least has proven he can function in that situation.

I wouldnt mind seeing some changes at the RB position, although we would be swapping out 6 figure players for 7 figure players, and we have some cap issues to deal with and FA's to try and retain....

IMO this team needs to make some roster moves, and make decisions on guys like Moore, Patterson etc.

The Denver Post believes impending free agent LG Zane Beadles could be in line for a five-year, $25 million contract this offseason.
Beadles graded out as just the No. 51 guard by Pro Football Focus this season, but is considered a strong pass protector and was a Pro Bowler in 2012. He should draw interest from multiple teams if allowed to test the open market. Rotoworld currently ranks Beadles as the No. 6 guard available this offseason.

I would tend to doubt Blount if offered good money from the Pats will want to leave that situation of already being on a winning team, but his smash mouth style of running would be an awesome upgrade over Thomas.

Looking at Blount's game log - http://www.rotoworld.com/log/nfl/5854/legarrette-blount

He only had 2 games in the regular season where he carried the ball more than 15 times, and both happened to be at season's end. Then he had the monster playoff game.

Definitely someone who can combine with Miller but I wouldn't consider him a feature back who is ready to rebound.

Sadly enough those last few games sum up better than Thomas career though, so based on Blount's short track record and even before NE, I still like him better. It will come down to cost, what NE does and is he a Philbin player anyway.

Absolutely nothing. And he was suspending in college for punching a player from another team for trash talking to him.
