Wow. So much for Detroit snapping him up. Chris Mortenson and Schefter reporting it.

On the surface, what he did with Nick Foles appears to be pretty incredible and he has a pretty cool name.

But can he call plays?

He's worked with Gibbs, Holmgreen and Chip Kelly. Was a college OC for a few years. Not seeing much else about him.

Caldwell wanted him pretty badly to help get Stafford to the next level.

I feel better about this than promoting from within or letting Philbin call plays.

Have to wonder if Kubiak said no thanks to an interview.

I like the choice. Let's get him a running back and some blockers to get the Dolphins offense out of the cellar.

I love the choice. Proof will be in the results, but awesome Miami snatched him up and ahead of other teams, namely Detroit who it was reported where he was headed.

What made it ironic is that the Go, Go-Go stuff didn't amount to a whole lot of "Go". Now, if Tannehill starts to say "Pistol, Pistol-Pistol" we'll have to put it all on Philben.

:haha

#Dolphins were looking for a coach of the West Coast offense who also had success working with QBs. Bill Lazor fits both profiles.

Lazor is well thought of in league. Scout I just talked with said, "Good mind - innovative. Very well liked in coaching circles."

Not to be a wet blanket, but one major problem that still needs to be corrected is this team showing up flat to start games or playing down to the level of competition. I put that on the HC as teams usually mirror his personality.

Hopefully Lazor knows how to fire guys up on the sideline or gets Tannehill to infuse a little more enthusiasm in sideline conversations when adversity rears its ugly head.

I like the hire not because of any first hand knowledge I have about his work but more this is such a non Dolphin hire..

Finally it looks like we looked outside the box (by this I mean the green box with yellow ribbon) and I'm excited of the possibility of some fresh and creative ideas

I like it because the Eages suffered some adversity in their offense and still made a playoff run.

I like how Rotoworld said
Quote:
After the Dolphins lost out to the Giants for ex-Packers QBs coach Ben McAdoo on Tuesday, they turned their attention to Lazor
. . Just like we lost out on Matt Flynn, eh?

Guess I thought their bias would disappear when Ireland did. Oh well.

I was holding out hope for Kubiak but Lazor could be cool if he builds Tannehill's confidence.

My only drawback is wondering if they hired someone with less experience simply because Philbin demands extra control of the offense

So what the hell is going on with the Zac Taylor situation? Has his butt been shown the door yet after daddy-in-law was given the same privilege?

Nope. Word is that Lazor is being told Taylor and Turner stay. Unless of course the Wells Report shows something on either of them.

the guy will fit in with joe P Great... he knows how to handle the media! only concern is play calling at this point.. I think this is a HUGE step up for our QB TBH

I looked up Taylor's "resume". He basically graduated college, worked as assistant under Sherman at A&M a few years, followed him to Miami as Asst QB coach and then promoted to QB coach this year.

He played QB at Nebraska but I haven't heard anything of him being considered a guru. I know Ken Dorsey is building a reputation in that department, but he's earning it. Seems Taylor was just handed the job.

If the Wells investigation doesn't get Turner fired, the only reason I can see him staying is because things can't really get much worse for him, leaving a lot of improvement. I am positive with a new GM that new linemen will be coming to South Beach. That makes things a little easier to start for Turner. Not to mention Martin wasn't much of a lineman to begin with, it should be nice to have him out of there.

All in all, I figured Turner would be one of the first to be relieved of their duties. I still have complete faith in Philbin. Lazor is a nice hire with potential, which is all you can really ask for at this stage. There are a lot of key ingredients to our stew of success and fortunately we have many of them in place, just a few tweeks and we are a very solid team.

From the looks of this years teams, we have a tough schedule next year. Things are lining up to be veeerrryyy interesting.

September is far off. Plenty of time to identify other smaller coaching changes that need to be made.

Joe Gibbs? I didn't know that. Either way this guy helped Foles reach a new level and I feel he can do the same here in Miami. Super excited.

The thought of not having Sherman calling plays anymore for my team is exciting alone. Welcome to Phinfever.

I hope Lazor can help Tannehill continue to progress. Lazor obviously helped bring Foles along. But lets not forget the Eagles also have a running back named LeSean McCoy to help with the running game.

I think it is common that family/friends get their foot in the door in the NFL because of connections and someone proven giving you that first start. None of us really know the true value that Zac Taylor brings, so to me how can you pick at him being given a chance?

Doesn't everyone start somewhere? For all we know he is a rising star coach.

No doubt it is all about who you know. That is EVERY industry in this country. He was married to Sherman's daughter so he got his chance.

He's been Tannehill's QB coach since A&M so there is familiarity. But he has his job because of Sherman, not because he worked his way up.

He may be a rising star, but I haven't heard any rumblings of that. All I've heard is that he needs to do a better job addressing Tannehill's footwork. Dan Campbell, for example, is someone being praised for his efforts as a TE coach and maybe working his way up.
