MIRAMAR – Bob Griese, the Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback, isn’t sure what to make of the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito episode. Griese said hazing is “part of the initiation” in the NFL. That’s why he said he isn’t yet sure what to think about this highly-publicized situation.
“I don’t know,” Griese said, speaking after the Miami Dolphins Touchdown Club meeting at Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill in Miramar.
“I will know in four or five weeks when everything comes out, after Jonathan Martin comes out and says, ‘Hey,…’ Whatever he says. ‘Hey, Richie, I didn’t tell him that. Who told him that? I didn’t say all that.’
“Or did he? What is he saying? So I don’t know. I really don’t know.
“All I know is that stuff’s been going on in lockerrooms forever.”
Griese was asked what “stuff”?
“Calling guys names,” Griese said. “The ‘n-word.’ I mean, they do that. That’s what they do. I wouldn’t use it, but for the people on the outside, I think when they see this coming out, the hazing, we’ve all been through it, it’s just a part of the initiation. ...
