Post Rookie Class
I brought this up a few weeks back and I was told patience, they are hurt...ETC, ETC. Well, we have contribution from Caleb, that's it. it baffles me last night watching 95 on the sidelines and watching Carrol getting torched. Why isn't Dallas playing on the OL? Where is Davis and Taylor, they were both dressed? It ticks me off watching rookies have impacts on other teams. We act like we are soooo deep with playmakers that we have time to "groom' them...we don't, this team sucks from coaching, OL, and our highly touted defense gets beat by a practice squad QB named Thad to a 4th string waiver wire pickup RB and a rookie statue QB that plays on a 0-8 team.....make them 1-8.

What sucks more is watching good players that the Dolphins jettisoned making big plays. Brandon Marshall has been a beast. Tannehill sure could use that kind of WR target. The Bears keep hitting on WR in the draft as well. The Phins couldn't control him, but hey...they can't control the current crowd either. Vontae Davis and Sean Smith are starters on teams that are doing quite well, thank you.

Honestly once the playoffs are out of the picture, I think you will see these rookies hit the field. Of course that may be dependent on how confident Phillbin is in keeping his job another year.
Your right though Mak, it is quite puzzling, especially with Jordan. He seems to do well when on the field. I'm not sure why he isn't seeing more playing time.

Dave Hyde echos our thoughts about this year's rookie class. One thing that I know is that Ireland picks them, but his coaches use them at their discretion.

Quote:
No team has got less production out of the rookie class and that continued Monday. Where’s Dion Jordan? Still playing behind Olivier Vernon. Second-round pick Jamar Taylor and third-round pick Will Davis were active for the first time together this year. Third-round pick Dallas Smith wasn’t. Caleb Sturgis made two field goals. But this was a draft the Dolphins made trades for and expected to be an impetus for this year. It’s helped not at all.

Its because the players in front of them are just so talented.

Davis and Taylor I can understand getting limited playing time.

Dallas Thomas being inactive every week is a joke for a 3rd round OG. Dion Jordan getting 9 effing snaps last night is a joke. He gets a pressure on 14% of his pass rush snaps (OV is at 10%, Shelby 7%), and he gets NINE snaps last night, and only 6 pass rushing opportunities. That's a joke.

Jelani Jenkins has been 10X better than Phillip Wheeler when he's been given a chance. Why he doesn't see the field more can only be attributed to Wheeler's paycheck, and this ridiculous fear of playing young players.

It's the type of class that you really can't draw any conclusions from after one year, given it's a "raw" group of players, and the coaches unwillingness to utilize them. That said, no rookie class should see this little production.

Sturgis is contributing

Jordan NEEDS TO SEE THE FIELD MORE. I understand he missed OTA, I understand he was injured... at 4-5 and one more loss almost knocking us out of the playoff picture, you gotta turn the kid loose, and play him for the future. Lets hope that happens starting after next week's loss, which I am already calling. This team will finish 6-10 with the effort shown in the first 28 minutes last night.... Send him loose!

Thomas, yea, if the OLine isn't working, put him in and see what he can do.

The DB's, well the way Grimes is playing, I understand. And patterson is pretty darn good. No question though, one of them should be manning the Nickel at this point...

Jenkins looks good. They all just need to see the field more. Hopefully they can develop in December, and be ready to go next season. Still a young team with lots of up side. They aren't gonna go anywhere with this coaching staff the way they are

Raw = sucks PR. It's a nice way of saying they have "potential" or They are raw meaning as of right now they suck, but they "might" develop. Either way, they suck.

Potential gets head coaches fired. Which is exactly what is happening with Philbin.

But I said when we drafted Will Davis, the guy won't play his rookie year…Way too raw. Not an NFL CB yet. Jamar Taylor basically missed the entire off season; given CB is one of the toughest positions for rookies to contribute, I can understand him not seeing the field much. That said, it's been 2 months since he's been healthy and he's getting no looks. That's not good, but I'll be patient with him.

Dallas Thomas not being active is unexplainable. How a 3rd round pick at OG is that bad is beyond my comprehension…Even John Jerry started as a rookie. He was horrible, but he played…

Dion Jordan and Jelani Jenkins lack of use is on the coaches. Especially Dion….the guy needs to get on the field, period.

Miami seems to find coaches that are afraid of rookies. Either it this or they just are not ready. If Russell Wilson had been drafted by Miami he would have never seen the field in a game that counts.

Dallas Thomas is producing so little, they can't even get his name right! :)

And the Dion Jordan thing is astounding. After they drafted him, they talked about how versatile he was, could lineup at end or at linebacker, etc. I understand Vernon is having a solid year, then put Jordan in at linebacker. Especially last night, it was maddening watching Justin Trusnik play every down. He needs to be a fourth down specialist and that's all.

I also can't stand watching Wheeler miss tackle after tackle every week and commit a stupid penalty last night that may have cost Miami the game. What a waste of money.

He was 1 on 1 with Gronk and was covering him, well too.
